Associate Professor, Group Leader

Prof Appleyard is a fatherly figure here at Macquarie. He is a phenomenal engineer and tremendous supervisor, who provides invaluable technical insight to each of our projects.

Richard manages the MQ TOR group and Surgical Skills Laboratory, coaches a touch football team, and still finds the time to be a loving family man. If only his golf swing got this much attention…

  • Research supervision of:

    • Development of the eight-muscle activated in-vitro cadaveric shoulder simulator and all associated research

    • Development of the active in-vitro cadaveric finger simulator and all associated research

    • Collaboration studies with Mathys/Enovis and Medacta

    • Development of computational model (OpenSim and FEA) representing the in-vitro cadaveric shoulder simulator

    • Development of an in-vitro cadaveric knee simulator
